Wren Kitchens Shuts Down US Operations in Surprising Market Exit

Wren Kitchens Closes US Business to Focus on UK Expansion

Wren Kitchens, a leading kitchen retailer, has confirmed that it has withdrawn from the US market to concentrate on expanding its UK business. The company has announced that it will be closing its US operations, citing the need to focus investment on its core UK business, which is experiencing double-digit growth.

Statement from Wren Kitchens

A statement from the company, published by KBB Review, reads: “After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the US market and focus investment on accelerating our core UK business which is experiencing double digit growth. The US business, a separate legal entity from the UK which is unaffected by this decision, was growing from a small base – accounting for around 4% of our Group’s overall turnover.”

The statement continues: “Its future success however relied on expanding our US retail estate. Despite our best efforts sadly we could not reach agreeable terms that would enable us to do that. We have therefore reluctantly taken the decision to appoint a Trustee who will manage our exit from the US market, in line with US regulations.”

Impact on US Colleagues and Customers

The company has expressed regret over the impact of the decision on its US colleagues and customers, stating: “We regret the impact this decision will have on our US colleagues – who we have been informed of our decision – and our customers and thank both of them for their support.”

It is reported that staff were informed of the decision at short notice, with some taking to social media to express their shock and disappointment. The Wren US website now displays a message informing customers that its showrooms and studios are closed, and provides a form for customers, suppliers, and employees to submit enquiries.

US Operations

Wren Kitchens first announced its plans to enter the US market in February 2020, with the intention of opening a store later that year. The company invested $15.4 million in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and opened a store in Milford, Connecticut, in November 2020.

In addition to its standalone showrooms, Wren Kitchens established a strategic partnership with The Home Depot in September 2024, operating concessions within a number of its stores. However, these concessions have now also closed as a result of the company’s decision to withdraw from the US market.

Focus on UK Expansion

Wren Kitchens will now focus on growing its UK business, with plans to open 15 new showrooms and launch new product categories this year. The company’s decision to withdraw from the US market is seen as a strategic move to concentrate on its core business and drive growth in the UK.

The closure of Wren Kitchens’ US operations marks a significant development in the US kitchen retail market. As the company focuses on its UK business, it remains to be seen how the market will react to its departure.
